Airbus

Problem Statement:

As production rates will increase to record levels for a significant period of time, to match the strong and  growing demand, how can Airbus and the supply chain develop sustainable capabilities, delivering uncompromising quality, driving competitiveness, building resilience?

  • Purpose: To engage suppliers in providing feedback and exploring creative ideas regarding this industry-wide challenge.

    Expected Outcomes:

    • Feedback
    • Ideas
    • New connections

GE Aerospace

Problem Statement:

At GE Aerospace we grind Ni based superalloys with complex geometries using plated CBN wheels.  Burr detection and removal is a challenge.  How can the burrs be detected and addressed either in the machine producing the burr or in a subsequent deburr operation (reducing safety and quality risks)?

  • Purpose: To engage suppliers in providing ideas to address this manufacturing challenge.

    Expected Outcomes:

    • Ideas towards possible solutions
    • Potential for follow up on specific recommendations
    • New connections

Liebherr Aerospace

 Problem Statement:

Our current MRO (maintenance, repair & overhaul) process for the heat exchangers and other components of the aircraft environmental control systems requires significant manual preparation and inefficiencies.  The material to be welded is no longer virgin (welded prior to cutting), has varying material thickness (0.5 mm to 3.0 mm) and gaps to close.

  • Purpose: Engage companies in discussions for potential solutions to reduce manual preparation and the possibilities for automation and robotic welding in the repair process.

    Expected Outcomes:

    • Quality consistency
    • Improve operational efficiencies
    • New connections
    • Potential for follow-up on recommendations

“The AIAM roundtable in 2023 proved to be a success for Pratt & Whitney in helping to solve our automation integration challenges.  It allowed for us to gain contacts in the industry such as JR Automation, Siemens and other automation professionals across Michigan to come up with creative solutions to our automation challenges across our organization by brainstorming these solutions during the roundtable and then bring them onsite to see our challenges firsthand.”
